A New Incentive for English Language Production in Québec
Toronto, April 24, 2013—Today, the Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced the Anglophone Minority Incentive, a $3 M program designed to encourage television convergent production for English language production in Québec.
‘This new program was designed to encourage English language content creation by production companies in Québec,’ says Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, Canada Media Fund. ‘Through existing programs like the Francophone Minority Program, the Aboriginal Program, Diverse Languages Program, and regional incentives, our goal is to ensure a diversity of voices from every part of country so that under-represented groups can also access funding from the CMF. ’
In March 2013, the CMF announced a program budget of $360.7 M for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Pursuant to recommendations from the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages (OCOL) made to Canadian Heritage, the CMF created the Anglophone Minority Incentive to which it allocated $3 M as part of its program budget.
The Anglophone Minority Incentive guidelines can be found on the CMF website by clicking here. Production companies will be able to apply to the incentive as of May 7, 2013 until November 26, 2013, the closing date or until the funds are depleted.
In the event that a large number of projects are submitted on the same date, creating demand overflow for a given program, the CMF will limit the available to one project per application and will distribute funding on a proportional (pro-rated) basis to eligible productions. English language projects from Québec will no longer have access to the English Production Incentive.
