Canada Media Fund welcomes Government of Canada COVID-19 relief funds
Toronto, April 17, 2020 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today welcomed the measures announced by Prime Minister Trudeau related to relief funding for the arts, culture and sports sectors. The Government of Canada will provide an additional $500M to Canadian Heritage to support the sectors through the pandemic. The CMF looks forward to working with government, other industry partners and agencies as decisions are made as quickly as possible on this relief fund.
"Canada's screen-based industry generates $12.8B to Canada's GDP and 181,000 well-paid jobs and has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic," said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. "We are extremely thankful to the Government of Canada for its support of our sector. It’s encouraging to see our industry included in the first package of sector-specific relief measures announced today. These additional funds will help companies impacted by the pandemic get through this difficult period. We will be able to build from this investment to make sure the industry gets back on its feet after the crisis."
In addition to these new funds, CMF is responding to the crisis by providing maximum flexibility to funded projects and participating in an industry-wide taskforce assembled to assess the impact of the pandemic on the sector. The CMF has also put in place an online information hub to help Canadian workers and companies in Canada’s screen-based industries navigate the many programs and resources available to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Information on financial support offered through more than 150 programs, as well as other essential resources can now be found at covid.cmf-fmc.ca. Please check our information hub for frequent updates.
