CMF and SP Cine (São Paulo, BR) announce a new codevelopment incentive
The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and SP Cine (São Paulo, BR) have entered into an agreement to provide financing for the development of coproductions. The announcement was made at Strategic Partners, a preeminent coproduction and cofinancing market held each year in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This agreement is part of the CMF’s Coproduction and Codevelopment Incentive announced earlier this year.
The agreement is designed to foster the development of projects for television, games and other digital media content for multiple platforms.
According to Valerie Creighton, CMF President and CEO: “The CMF is pleased to collaborate with SP Cine in order to foster and develop opportunities for producers in both Canada and Brazil. Like our agreement with Rio Filme earlier this year, we look forward to having Canadian producers seize this opportunity to partner with producers in Brazil. The audiovisual industry in both countries can benefit from the wealth of talent and ideas our talented producers have to offer.”
According to Alfredo Manevy, SP Cine President and CEO: “We are very glad to sign our first international agreement with Canada. This is a testament to our huge interest in developing and producing with this country. São Paulo extended the nature of the agreement between the CMF and Rio Filme, also offering incentives for variety and performing arts as a format for TV projects, as well as Internet, digital games and their related transmedia projects. Innovation is a key word for us.”
The incentive budget is set at CAN $200,000, to which each organization will contribute half of the total amount. Projects must involve at least one São Paulo-based production company and one Canadian production company. The CMF and SP Cine will publish guidelines on this incentive and proceed with a call for applications. Eligible projects will then be selected by a jury comprised of representatives from the CMF and SP Cine.
