CMF publishes the 2015 Keytrends Report

Toronto – January 14, 2015 - The Keytrends Report 2015 - The Big Blur Challenge, which provides an in-depth look at the audiovisual industry in Canada and around the world, was published today following a presentation by the CMF at Forum Blanc in Grand Bornand, France. Forum Blanc is an annual international event where industry experts meet to  explore the development of multiplatform projects through case studies, workshops and debates.

The report draws a portrait of the major trends that are shaping today’s screen-based industries and analyses their potential impact on the Canadian television and digital media industry. Click here to access the report.

Six key trends studied in this document:

  1. There are fewer entry points for a growing number of overwhelmed users;
  2. The blending of TV and online consumption continues;
  3. Game watching and e-sports hold a growing place in the entertainment industry;
  4. YouTube is leaving the age of “amateurism”, with some user-generated content achieving professional standards;
  5. There are fewer and fewer intermediaries in revenue generation, and fan labour is raising debate;
  6. Worldwide, a few giants hold a growing share of the media market and competition is intensifying.

CMF Keytrends Reports are published twice a year. They can be accessed on the CMF Trends website by clicking here.
