CMF’s submission to modernize Canada’s culture legislation

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) submitted a detailed proposal to the Government of Canada’s panel reviewing the Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Radiocommunication Acts. Click here to read the full submission.

The CMF submits that the Broadcasting Act can play a pivotal role in achieving the Government’s objective of protecting, promoting, and supporting Canadian culture in both official languages while at the same time capturing a greater share of global markets in a platform-agnostic way that embraces culture and creativity as a key driver for economic growth.

Specifically, the CMF’s comments are made in response to the following questions as set out in the Panel’s Terms of Reference: Broadcasting Policy Objectives, Support for Canadian Content and Creative Industries and Cultural Diversity.

As the Broadcasting Act is reviewed and updated to address the new digital landscape, the CMF is well-positioned and prepared to evolve in step, to continue to be a complementary lever in Canada’s Cultural Policy Toolkit and to ensure that the next generation of Canadian storytellers have the appropriate tools to create and succeed in the digital age.
