This study by the Observatoire de la culture et des communications du Québec, a division of Institut de la statistique du Québec, brings together all the statistical information available up to July 2012 to create a profile of the fields of film and television in Quebec. It aims in particular to shed light on the circulation of financial flows and to demonstrate the function and value of each of this industry’s components. It provides answers to a number of questions raised by the current upheavals caused, among other things, by the expansion of digital technologies and the manner in which existing business models are being forced to change.
Book 1 covers financial flows and industrial organization. The overall economic interactions between the several links in the industry value chain are described, while levels of concentration and integration are likewise measured. Book 2 covers the legislative framework and non-governmental organizations which exercise a strategic role in allowing the industry to achieve its cultural and economic goals.
Three more books, covering the demand system, supply system and the overall economic aspects, will be published in the coming months.
