Are you a solution-seeker in everything you do and are one to thrive in a team environment? The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is looking for a Research Lead to join its Foresight & Innovation team!
What you will do
The Research Lead, Foresight and Innovation, conducts research and analyzes the screen industry to support the department’s objectives. These objectives include identifying the dynamics, (re)shaping the sector and understanding how they may impact it. Foresight and Innovation’s research aims to make robust data-driven recommendations to the CMF’s teams and deliver high level expertise to the industry, whether through the department publication “Perspectives" or industry conferences.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Proactively research, filter and analyze information and data about the screen industries
- Maintain and update data aggregation, filtering and classification tools and ensure ease of access for colleagues to research data
- Undertake quantitative and qualitative data collection, analyses, surveys and literature reviews
- Produce briefing notes, internal reports and prepare presentations for external interventions
- Assist in the overall management of CMF Perspectives:
- Conduct research on suggested topics of interest.
- Identify data and materials required to support publication, design project and work schedule.
- Manage budgets and overall coordination of the production.
- Manage approvals and publication of reports in collaboration with the teams involved (whether it’s internal research or outsourced research to a third party)
- Propose and/or coordinate strategic initiatives and publications with third parties, such as industry case studies. Oversee operations related to the completion of these initiatives and act as the liaison between the parties, CMF teams and their clients, as necessary.
- Consult and collaborate with relevant CMF staff and departments to effectively and efficiently achieve strategic objectives.
Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of the Canadian (both English and French markets) and international screen industries (television, gaming, digital media), their infrastructure and related issues (in particular technology, business practices and the competitive market).
- Practical experience in project management and partnerships (logistics operations, production schedules, management of deliverables, etc.)
- Broad knowledge of research engines and other Web tools used in researching, sorting and classifying various information sources (e.g., Evernote, Outlook RSS, Pocket, Feedly, etc.)
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment in which uncertainty and growth go hand in hand.
- Knowledge of the innovation-and-technology start-up environment would be an asset.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in media/Cultural Studies preferred
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of practical experience in the media sector (television or digital media)
Skills:
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Analytical skills and critical thinking.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French are required.
- Experience in processing, managing and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines, often with short turn-around times.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Mastery of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of data analysis software (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau) is a strong asset.
- Survey design skills are an asset.
