Canada and Ireland announce reopening of development incentive for audiovisual projects

Toronto / Dublin, November 8, 2016 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) announced today the reopening of their funding incentive for the development of audiovisual projects. A total of CAD$150,000 will be made available to support Irish and Canadian producers to develop coproductions for broadcast on Canadian and Irish television services. Guidelines, application documents and deadline for submissions can be found hereCanadian and Irish producers are encouraged to apply by January 13, 2017.

Funding awarded under the Canada-Ireland codevelopment incentive for audiovisual projects will be allocated through an open application process to projects that fulfil the relevant criteria. A selection committee of CMF and BAI representatives will assess and select the winning projects. Both organisations contributed an equal share in the total funding of the development incentive.

Producers interested in finding an international partner as part of this development incentive are invited to post a profile of their company on the CMF’s website by clicking here. Profiles will be accessible to all, including potential partners from other countries.

As part of the first round of applications received under this program, the CMF and BAI are happy to announce a commitment of CAD$48,100 to fund the development of The Drownings. This 6x60 documentary series, produced by Soshefeigh Media (Canada) and New Decade TV (Ireland), delves into the eerily similar circumstances of the disappearances of young men found drowned in shallow waters across Canada and Ireland. The CMF contributed CAD$23,100 to this project, while BAI contributed €17,142 (approximately CAD$25,000).
