Canada-Germany Digital Media incentive reopens with increased budget

Toronto and Berlin, April 16, 2024 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB), the body responsible for film funding and media business development in the German states of Berlin and Brandenburg, today announced the reopening of their incentive for the co-development and co-production of digital media projects between Canadian and Berlin-Brandenburg-based German producers.

For the eighth edition of the incentive, and for the first time since 2018, the CMF and MBB have increased the incentive’s total budget to C$550,000 (approximately €375,000), each contributing half of the sum. The total maximum contribution for each project funded through the incentive is C$400,000 (approximately €270,000).

To qualify, projects must involve producers eligible under both organizations’ criteria. Projects will have to be created for digital platforms and can be either a game, a web series, multiplatform content, augmented reality, or virtual reality experiences.

Projects will be evaluated according to a set of criteria, including innovative and creative elements, how they engage the targeted community and audience, the creative team, and the viability of the projects’ budget and timelines.

How to apply

All applications must comply with the guidelines for the incentive, which are available on both the CMF and MBB websites. The deadline to apply is June 18, 2024

Projects will be evaluated and chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from the CMF and MBB.

Finding an international partner

Producers interested in finding an international partner as part of this incentive are invited to post a profile of their company on the CMF’s website. Profiles will be accessible to all, including potential partners from other countries.
