Canada-Italy documentary project receives $38.5K in funding
Toronto (Canada) / Rome (Italy), March 7, 2017 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Italian Directorate General for Cinema of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism (DGC - MiBACT) announced today an investment of CAD $38.5K for one project under the Canada-Italy Codevelopment Incentive for Documentary Projects.
As part of this incentive, Matter of Fact Media (Canada) and GA&A Productions (Italy) will collaborate in the development of Beast Hunters of Rome. This documentary will tell the story of the little-known hunters of Ancient Rome who risked their lives by catching wild animals for the deadly performances that entertained thousands in the Colosseum. The CMF contributed CAD$22,500 to this project, while DGC - MiBACT contributed CAD$16,000.
To be eligible for funding, the selected project was required to be a one-off documentary intended for broadcast by an eligible Canadian broadcaster, involving at least one Canadian producer and one Italian producer. Projects were evaluated and chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from both funding organizations.
