Canada Media Fund welcomes tabling of Online Streaming Act

Toronto, February 3, 2022 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) welcomed Minister of Canadian Heritage Pablo Rodriguez’s introduction of the Online Streaming Act. This new legislation is intended to modernize the existing Broadcasting Act.

“Including foreign web giants in Canada’s funding ecosystem is a long-term investment in the screen sector. It will ensure stories made in Canada by Canadians reach audiences everywhere,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “Modernizing our sector’s legislative and regulatory levers by creating a more equitable structure will help us generate the conditions in which our industry will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world,” she added.

“We thank Minister Rodriguez for his unwavering leadership and sense of urgency on this matter. We look forward to discussing the contents of the bill and consulting with our stakeholders on its impact."
