Canadian audiences call for more Encore+
Toronto, December 11, 2017 – Encore+, a YouTube channel showcasing iconic Canadian content from years gone by, has garnered an impressive following and viewership rate in just over one month since its launch, this past November 7. As of today, over 10K YouTube users subscribed to the channel and have viewed videos over 272K times, totalling more than 41K hours of viewed content. User feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with enthusiastic Encore+ community members suggesting various films and TV shows they would like to see listed on the channel or new episodes added.
Since launch, the offer of content on Encore+ has continued to grow, with new iconic titles added on an ongoing basis. Among the titles that are being made available this December, we find shorts such as Hemingway: a portrait; feature films such as 100 Days in the Jungle, Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Cannibal Girls, When Night is Falling, Lillies, and Varian’s War; as well as the second season of Little Mosque on the Prairie and the third season of The Littlest Hobo.
In addition to this, Encore+ is offering a curated bundle of some of the National Film Board of Canada’s most renowned short films, documentaries and feature films of the past 25 years, including By Woman’s Hand, The Boys of Saint-Vincent, The Company of Strangers, The Danish Poet, The Ernie Game, Ladies and Gentlemen...Mr. Leonard Cohen, Ryan and The Stratford Adventure.
Audiences are eager to discover and rediscover many of the Canadian films and television series of their youth. A user-generated poll on the most memorable English language TV show garnered considerable media exposure. Over 400,000 Canadians participated in the poll, which named Mr. Dressup, a title available on Encore+, as “Canada's Most Memorable (English) TV Thing.”
Working closely with Canada’s film and television producers, distributors, broadcasters, unions, guilds and other industry associations, Encore+ is spearheaded by the Canada Media Fund with support from Google Canada, Bell Media, BroadbandTV (BBTV), and Deluxe Toronto.
