Close to 600 projects supported by the Canada Media Fund in 2011-2012- CMF publishes its online 2011-2012 Annual Report
The Canada Media Fund (CMF) published today its online Annual Report for the 2011-2012 fiscal year which outlines its role in shaping Canada’s creative economy and digital future.
“The Canada Media Fund achieved unprecedented funding levels that enabled us to build on the previous year’s successes and to continue to provide valuable and measurable support to Canada’s television and digital media industry,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO. “The overall program budget dedicated to the creation of Canadian screen-based media in 2011-2012 triggered more than $1.3 billion in production volume.”
As detailed in the Annual Report, the CMF provided $358 million in funding to a total of 509 television and related digital media projects through its Convergent stream and 90 innovative and interactive digital media projects through its Experimental stream. In addition to its financial support, the CMF also continued to lay the groundwork for the dissemination of industry intelligence to its stakeholders.
According to Louis Roquet, CMF Chair, “2011-2012 also marked a turning point for the CMF, which was renewed as an ongoing program by the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable James Moore. We wish to express our gratitude to the Government of Canada and to Canada’s cable and satellite distributors for their significant investment in Canadian production and innovation, ensuring an exceptional place in the digital future.”
The Annual Report provides a complete overview of the CMF’s activities throughout 2011-2012 as well as a summary of industry developments that shaped the year. It contains detailed information on funding results as well as new data on the success of projects funded by the CMF in terms of audience, critical acclaim and international sales. The complete financial overview section includes the Independent Auditors' Report and Financial Statements.
The online Annual Report also has a feedback section, inviting visitors to the site to share their views and comments on the report. This valuable input will help shape the way the CMF reports on its activities.
