CMF invests $19.7M in 31 digital media and francophone minority projects
Toronto, December 13 2018 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today that 31 projects would receive a total of $19.7M in funding through three of its programs. A total of $9.9 will be invested in 16 innovative digital media projects through the second round of funding of its Experimental Stream’s Innovation Program and an additional $6.6M are being invested in nine projects through the Commercial Projects Pilot Program. A further $3.2M will fund six projects through the Francophone Minority Program.
Experimental Stream Innovation Program: Production
A jury of Canadian and international industry specialists evaluated the projects submitted for production support through the Experimental Stream’s Innovation Program. This round’s jury consisted of Wendy Bernfeld (Amsterdam), Laurent Guérin (Toronto), Olaf Hirschberg (Cologne), Annelise Larson (Saskatoon), Audrey Paccart (Montréal), Philippe Pasquier (Vancouver) and Liz Rosenthal (London). Audiences will have access to a variety of new digital content including 11 games, four rich interactive media and one software application.
The Experimental Stream’s Innovation Program encourages the creation of interactive digital media content and software applications. Including this round of funding, the CMF has invested over $226.4 in the production of 406 innovative projects since 2010.

Experimental Stream Commercial Projects Pilot Program
A specialized jury of experts on interactive digital media composed by Noemie Dupuy (Montréal), Mark Greenspan (Toronto), Francis Ingrand (Paris), Domenico La Porta (Liège, Belgium) and Rachel Noonan (Toronto) assessed projects which applied for funding through the Experimental Stream’s Commercial Projects Pilot Program. Funding through this Program is designed to support Canadian interactive digital media content and software applications which have an increased emphasis on commercial success. The CMF has invested over $14.8M in 25 projects with commercial viability since the program was launched in 2016.
Audiences will have access to a variety of new digital content including seven games and two rich interactive media.

Francophone Minority Program
Six convergent projects will receive $3.2M in funding as part of the second round of production financing under the Francophone Minority Program. This program supports projects which reflect the realities of living in French-language communities outside Québec. The CMF has provided $226.4 to 406 projects through this program since 2010.
Canadian audiences will have a chance to enjoy these new productions created for television and digital media from various regions of the country: one from New Brunswick, one from Nova Scotia and four from Ontario. There will be three Children’s & Youth projects, two Variety & Performing Arts productions and one Drama project.
