CMF and industry partners supporting nine emerging documentary creatives participating in the European Film Market’s Doc Toolbox programme
Toronto, January 12, 2023 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is proud to announce its support for nine documentary producers from sovereignty- and/or equity-seeking communities who will participate in the European Film Market's Doc Toolbox Programme taking place in-person from February 16 to 22, 2023. The participants' fees and travel costs will be covered by the CMF, with support from the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Creative BC, and the CMPA-BC.
"We are eager to support these producers as they build their networks and gain market access internationally, while seeking opportunities to monetize and sell content representing Canadian perspectives," says Tamara Dawit, Vice President of Growth and Inclusion, CMF.
Hailing from British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Québec, the participants are: Omolola Ajao, Sharon Yeung, Aisha Jamal, Alejandro Valbuena, Swaysən William George, Kevin Fitzgerald, Paola Arriagada Nunez, Victoria Catherine Chan, and Gentille Menguizani Assih.
The nine producers were selected by SODEC and Hot Docs following a September 2022 call for applications from producers with projects suitable for international co-production or sales/distribution.
The EFM's Doc Toolbox Programme is designed to provide documentary creatives from sovereignty- and/or equity-seeking communities with the business know-how, market intelligence, and connections they need to further develop their careers. It offers tailored workshops, one-on-one meetings and consultations, and access to networking and matchmaking events.
